U.S. ARMY 2ND BRIGADE SUPPORT BATTALION, 2ND BCT, 2ND INFANTRY DIVISION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

For Enlisted personnel, the insignia is centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e) "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

As part of the the April 2008 inactivation of 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, the BCT was reflagged as the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division; similarly, the 2nd Brigade Forward Support Battalion was also inactivated and reflagged as the 704th Brigade Support Battalion. The reorganization brought a close to the 2nd Brigade Support Battalion’s 90-plus years of combat support service under several different designations.

During World War I, the unit took part in six campaigns as part of the 2nd Supply Train. By 1939, it had become a subordinate unit of the 2nd Quartermaster Battalion and was redesignated the 2nd Quartermaster Company in October 1942. As a component of the 2nd Infantry Division, the Company landed in Normandy on D+4 (10 June 1944), and in less than a year would earn combat credit for five campaigns and was honored with the Belgian fourragère.

Following occupation duty in Germany after World War II, the Company was deployed to Korea in 1950 and saw action throughout the entire conflict, earning credit for participation in ten campaigns along with a Distinguished Unit Citation and a pair of Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citations. Nicknamed the Mustang Battalion, the unit was placed in direct support of the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division in 1989. Deployed to Iraq in 2004, it returned to its new home base of Fort Carson in 2005, where it remained before its 2008 inactivation.
