U.S. ARMY 307TH SIGNAL BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Worn today by members in the 307th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, the Distinctive Unit Insignia (unit crest) for the 307th Signal Battalion was approved on 29 February 1972. The background colors of the shield portion of the insignia, orange and white, denote its status as a Signal Corps organization. A pair of red lightning flashes, combined with the orange rayonné (wavy rays), emphasize the incredible speed of modern communications.

The grape leaf between the lightning flashes memorialize the unit’s participation in the Rhineland campaign during World War II, while the red coloration of the lightning flashes allude to the Meritorious Unit Commendation the unit was awarded for its outstanding service during that action. OPTIME MERENTI, the Battalion motto, is Latin for “To The Best Deserving.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been
authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
