The 327th Signal Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, often called a unit crest of a DUI, was approved on 28 September 1990. At the top of the insignia is an arch that simulates a parachute, a testimony to the unit’s Airborne capabilities. Orange lighting flashes on a silver (white) background incorporate the branch colors of the Signal Corps, while black is used throughout the insignia to reference the unit’s mascot and logo, “Nighthawk,” also alluded to by a hawk plunging toward its prey that also represents the pride, spirit, and strength found in the Warrior Ethos embodied by the Battalion’s personnel. The flashes are symbols of the speed of modern tactical communications and, combined with the annulet (siler circle) form the outline of an arrowhead striking a bullseye, reinforcing the unit motto “Speed And Accuracy.”
Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
