U.S. ARMY 32ND SIGNAL BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Employing a simple shield design, the 32nd Signal Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia is divided vertically into six equal areas that represent the battle honors the Battalion received for service in World War II in both Europe (five streamers with campaign inscriptions) and the Pacific (uninscribed Asiatic-Pacific Theater streamer). The upper left and right corners are each  home to an  ancient war horns, rendered in the Signal Corps’ branch colors of orange and white. Once troops were assembled, the war horns were blown as a signal for specific groups of soldiers to march. A pair of war horns is used to reflect the organization’s Signal responsibilities in two different theaters of operation during World War II.

The 32nd Signal Battalion was first constituted as the 32nd Signal Construction Battalion on 11 May 1942 and activated 25 March. It was one of the few units from any branch of the military to serve in both the Europe and the Pacific. Deployed in Germany for most of the Cold War and still based there to this day, the Battalion was deployed to the Balkans in support of Task Force Hawk in 1999. During the War on Terrorism, the Battalion has been awarded two Meritorious Unit Commendations, both while serving in the 22nd Signal Brigade.

While the “official” unit motto was QUINQUE PER QUINQUE (“Five By Five”), the Battalion preferred a much more action-packed byword: “Sound The Warhorns!”

The 32d Signal Battalion was deactivated on 22 May 2007.
