The 346th Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia, also called a DUI or a unit crest, was originally approved for the 346th Regiment on 21 January 1925. It was subsequently redesignated, with revised description and symbolism, for the 346th Regiment on 6 April 1993. The blue tones found throughout the insignia denote organization’s origins in the Infantry branch (blue is the official color for Infantry). In the center is a chevron, half blue and half gold, which represents the unit’s service in the American Expeditionary Force in World War I.
Below the chevron is a cotton boll, an allusion to Alabama, the state where the Regiment was originally allocated. The green region in the upper left is a canton (inset) that displays the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia of the 87th Division, the unit’s parent organization through both World Wars and thereafter organizationally linked to the Regiment. SEMPER ET UBIQUE FIDELIS, the Regimental motto, is Latin for ALWAYS AND EVERYWHERE FAITHFUL.
Guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 346th Regiment was originally constituted on 5 August 1917 in the National Army as the 346th Infantry and assigned to the 87th Division. During World War I, both the Regiment and Division were broken up and their components used as replacements forces, resulting in both organizations (and their subordinate units) receiving an uninscribed World War I streamer.
Demobilized in 1919, the Regiment was reconstituted in June 1921 in the Organized Reserves with the same designation and assigned once again to the 87th Division. Deployed to Europe, the Regiment took part in three campaigns before returning home and being inactivated in September 1945. It was reactivated in January 1947 in the Organized Reserves but subsequently inactivated on 31 March 1955 at Jackson, Mississippi. Nearly forty years elapsed before the unit was redesignated as the 346th Regiment on 1 October 1993 and reorganized to be made up of three Battalions—all elements of the 87th Division (Exercise).
The Regiment’s number of Battalions changed in two reorganization and its 1st Battalion allotted to the Regular Army before they were called into service for the War on Terrorism. In December 2006, the 1st Battalion was relieved from assignment to the 87th Division, and in April 2007 the Regiment was reorganized as a parent regiment in the U.S. Army Regimental System and its remaining two Battalions, the 2nd and 3rd, relieved from assignment to the 87th Division. Since that time, all three Battalions have earned an Army Superior Unit Award for their service between June 2008 and September 2011.
As of Autumn 2023, all three Battalions are still serving as Training units. 1-346th is an Air Defense Artillery unit in the 188th Infantry Brigade; 2-346th is a Combat Sustainment Support Battalion in the 177th Armored Brigade Training Support Division, 85th Support Command; and 3-346th is assigned to 1st Brigade, 87th Training Division, 84th Training Command.
