U.S. ARMY 347TH REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 347th Regiment was originally constituted in the National Army as the 347th Infantry and assigned to the 87th Division on 5 August 1917. Because its units were used as replacements upon arriving in France, the Division and the Regiment both earned a World War I streamer without inscription of a campaign, battle, or location.

Following demobilization in 1919, the Regiment was reconstituted in the Organized Reserves with the same designation and again assigned to the 87th Division (87th Infantry Division during World War II and onward). Fighting with the 87th, the Regiment took part in three campaigns in Europe, with its 1st Battalion receiving a Presidential Unit Citation embroidered “RHINE RIVER.” Inactivated at war’s end, the Regiment was reactivated in the Organized Reserves in 1947, but was inactivated March 1955 and relieved from its assignment to the 87th Division.

In October 1993, the Regiment was redesignated as the 347th Regiment to consist of three Battalions, all elements of the 87th Division (Exercise), which later became 87th Division (Training Support). It was relieved from that assignment when the 87th Division was inactivated in 2007 and its Battalions reassigned to First Army Division East. As of March 2023, both the 1st and 2nd Battalions, 347th Regiment serve as Combat Support/Combat Sustainment Support units for the 188th Infantry Brigade and are respectively stationed at Forts Gillem and Fort Eisenhower (the latter formerly known as Fort Gordon) in Georgia. The 3rd Battalion is a Training Support Battalion assigned to the 177th Armored Brigade and is based in Orlando, Florida.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
