U.S. ARMY 412TH THEATER ENGINEER COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

Often called a “unit crest,” the Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) of the 412th Theater Engineer Command was approved on 1 May 1975. Scarlet and white are used as the base colors for the insignia because they are the branch colors of the Corps of Engineers. A fleur-de-lis in the center is a symbol of the World War II service in the European Theater of the Commands' predecessor unit that was honored with a Meritorious Unit Commendation; the laurel wreath around it denotes victory and achievement. The embattled castle wall is a reference to the construction capabilities that make up a large portion of the Engineers mission.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been
authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Since the constitution in the Organized Reserves of the 372nd Engineers, the 412th Theater Engineer Command and units in its lineage have been called to service on several occasions, where their outstanding performance has proven that the unit takes its motto of “Build To Serve” very seriously. Designated as the 372d Engineer General Service Regiment, the unit was called into active Federal service in December 1942 and took part in three campaigns in the European Theater, earning a Meritorious Unit Commendation for its dedicated service and commitment to mission.

In addition to deploying numerous detachments of subordinate units to support the War on Terrorism, the Command also has a prior record of constantly answering the call for service from our nation and, in times of crisis and disaster, from around the world. Examples from the 1990s include Operations Joint Endeavor and Joint Forge in Bosnia and Kosovo and the Hungary Joint Task Force East. The Command has also provided Soldiers to assist with exercises and constructions in the Philippines, Vietnam, Marshall Island, Thailand, and East Timor.

In 2008, the Command's work in a non-combat environment was recognized with an Army Superior Unit Award for its work in executing “a total transformation of all assigned engineer units to a new modular force structure,” among other achievements. As of Autumn 2023, the 412th Theater Engineer Command is a major Functional Command in the United States Army Reserve headquartered in Vicksburg, Mississippi. It exercises command and control over the
the 411th and 926th Engineer Brigades and the 302nd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, as well as three Engineer Detachments and a Mission Support Element.
