The 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade was one of the few units in the Army that was redesignated (from 4th Combat Support Brigade) more than a half-year before it was originally activated (16 October 2008). Based at Fort Leonard Wood, the “Dauntless” Brigade took on the assignment of Task Force Operations for the CBRN Response unit of United States Northern Command’s Joint Task Force Civil Support, working with first responders at the local, state, and federal level to develop tactics and strategies to minimize casualties from a chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear event.
Assigned to the 1st Infantry Division for the entirety of its active service, the Brigade cased its colors on 17 June 2015 in a ceremony held at Fort Leonard Wood.
The 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, also referred to as a unit patch, features an unsheathed sword positioned inside a lozenge on a shield with a teal background (teal is the color of branch immaterial units). Chevrons at the four tips of the lozenge points are a reference to the unit’s numerical designation, and the sword represents vigilance and protection. Four stars represent the Brigade’s four missions (Engineer, Military Police, Brigade Support, and Signals).
