U.S ARMY 501ST SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 501st Sustainment Brigade was a support unit in the Regular Army that provided logistical support for the 2nd Infantry Division, 8th Army, as well as other United States Army units based in South Korea. It was reflagged as the 2nd Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade in July 2015, but a new name and organization has not caused the Brigade to waver even once its endeavors to always provide “Service To Professionals.”

Prior to the reflagging, the Brigade had been stationed on the Korean Peninsula since 1986 when it was designated 501st Support Group (Corps) and based at Yongsan. It relocated to Camp Red Cloud in 1991, followed by another move to Camp  Carroll near Daegu when it was designated the 501st Sustainment Brigade in 2006.

Also known as a unit crest or a DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 501st Sustainment Brigade was approved on 13 January 2006; it had previously been approved for the 501st Support Group on 7 April 1986. Five divided vertical sections in the middle form a chevron at their peaks and represent the five campaigns in which the Brigade’s predecessor unit, the 501st Quartermaster Battalion, took part in during World War II (1) and the Korean War (4). A taeguk at the base of the insignia and the red circular scroll over which it is superimposed allude to the Meritorious Unit Commendation and Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation the unit received for its exceptional service during the Korean War. The fleur-de-lis superimposed on the taeguk stands for service in France during World War II.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
