Approved on 14 January 1988, the 528th Sustainment Brigade Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, pays tribute to the unit’s service in World War II while it was designated as the 528th Quartermaster Service Battalion and later the 528th Quartermaster Battalion. In the center of the insignia is a heraldic dance, or zig-zag line; here it is used to suggest mountains, and the blue wavy lines beneath represent water. Bookending the circle with the wavy lines are two red arrows that stand for the Arrowhead devices the unit was awarded for taking part in assault landings during the Sicily campaign and the Southern France campaign. “We Support To The Utmost,” the Brigade motto, is written in buff letters on a scarlet scroll—colors associated with Support units.
In addition to its service in World War II, the Brigade also earned credit for participation in four campaigns during the Vietnam War, two during the First Gulf War, and a yet to be determined number in the War on Terrorism. Unit honors include a Valorous Unit Award for the First Gulf War and a Meritorious Unit Citation for its service between 2001 – 2004 in Afghanistan.
As of Autumn 2023, the 528th Sustainment Brigade (Special Operations) (Airborne) is based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and comprises a Brigade Headquarters, the 528th Special Troops Battalion, 112th Signal Battalion and the 389th Military Intelligence Battalion. Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e),
