U.S. ARMY 593RD EXPEDITIONARY SUSTAINMENT COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1
, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command has undergone a dizzying number of redesignations since it as originally constituted as the 1350th Engineer Base Depot Brigade on 1 August 1944 and activated 7 August 1944. The 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command Distinctive Unit Insignia, for example, was or has been approved for the 593rd General Support Group (May 1969), the 593rd Support Group (March 1973), the 593rd Sustainment Brigade (April 2008), and of course for the unit’s current Command designation.

A golden Philippine sunburst at the top of the insignia represents the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation the unit received for Far East service in World War II. Below it, a red chevron recalls the Meritorious Unit Commendation (MUC) earned during World War II (one of three in all that the Command has earned). Magnolia leaves uplifting the chevron recall Camp Claiborne in Louisiana where the unit was first activated in 1944 (the magnolia is Louisiana’s state tree). The unit motto of "Rest Assured" is testament to the confidence the Command has in complete mission success.

In addition to the MUC it earned in World War II, the unit also earned a Meritorious Unit Commendation for service in Vietnam while taking part in fourteen of that conflict's named campaigns. Since the launch of the War on Terrorism, the unit  deployed twice to Iraq (2004 and 2006) and once to Afghanistan (2012) and earned is third Meritorious Unit Commendation for its service between June 2006 and June 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As of Autumn 2023, the 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command calls Joint Base Lewis-McChord home. Besides its HQ and HQ Company, the Command controls three Battalions (Combat Sustainment Support, Signal, and Transportation) and a Medical Brigade.
