The 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command Shoulder Sleeve Insignia–Military Operations in Hostile Conditions (SSI-MOHC) was originally approved on 16 April 2008 while the unit was still designated as a Sustainment Brigade; it has since been approved for the organization's current designation. The palette of the colored version of the patch incorporates the national colors of red (valor), white (purity of purpose), and blue (loyalty); buff is employed for the spear shafts to reflect the unit’s role in Support. Five stars stand for five campaigns in which the unit had participated in up to the approval date: World War II, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Somalia, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Beneath the stars is Mount Rainier, an imposing geographical landmark of the Northwest and an allusion to the 30-plus years the unit spent stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. Overlapping spears simulate an “X” atop an “I” to form the Roman numeral IX for nine; five stars plus the nine and three spears forms 593, the unit’s longtime numerical designation. The arrows represent the three core branches of logistics: Ordnance, Quartermaster, and Transportation.
