The Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 67th Armor Regiment was approved on 22 September 1923 and features and insignia inherited by the Regiment from the 305th Tank Brigade of World War I, which included the 17th Tank Battalion (designated the 303rd Tank Battalion at that time). An erupting volcano is used to indicate the heavy casualties the Battalion suffered from antitank mines.
Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e),
"Beret" and
"Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 2nd 67th Armor Regiment was originally constituted in the Regular Army as the 2nd Tank Regiment on 1 September 1929 from new and existing units, some of which had served in the Somme offensive during World War I. It was converted and redesignated on 25 October 1932 as the 67th Infantry (Medium Tanks), and then converted and redesignated again on 15 July 1940 to become the 67th Armored Regiment and assigned to the 2nd Armored Division. During World War II, the Regiment fought in a half-dozen campaigns in the European Theater, taking part in assault landings twice to earn a pair of coveted Arrowhead devices; it was also awarded two Presidential Unit Citations and a Belgian Fourragere 1940 for two citations in the Order of the Day of the Belgian Army.
Broken up in 1946, the Regiment would eventually be reconstituted from many of its former elements (albeit with different designations) on 6 June 1958 as a parent regiment in the Combat Arms Regimental System (CARS). On 17 May 1986, it was withdrawn from CARS and reorganized under the U.S. Army Regimental System. The newly organized Regiment fought in all three campaigns of the First Gulf War (Southwest Asia), earning a Valorous Unit Award and a Navy Unit Commendation for its exceptional performance. In the War on Terrorism, both of the Regiment’s two active Battalions, the 1st and 3rd, have been deployed overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, with each being honored with a Valorous Unit Award for service between 24 April and 22 March 2003.
As of Summer 2023, the 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment is stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas and is part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division. The 67th Armor Regiment's other active Battalion, the 3rd, is assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division's 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team; it based at Fort Stewart in Georgia.
