The 705th Military Police Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), also called a unit crest, was approved on 9 October 1991. It celebrates the Battalion’s association with Fort Leavenworth with the image of a crossed flintlock rifle and an arrow of a Native American arrow, gripped powerfully in a mailed fist that symbolizes both courage and strength as well as honor. The fist emerges from behind a crenellated wall that represents security and recalls vigilance and sacrifice. Many of the qualities alluded to in the imagery of the insignia are delineated in the unit motto of “Vigilance Honor Courage.”
Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
