U.S. ARMY 734TH REGIONAL SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

Based in Johnston, Iowa, the 734th Regional Support Group is an Iowa Army National Guard (ARNG) unit that is tasked with providing base operations support for contingency and expeditionary operations. This includes facilities management, provision of logistical and administrative support of Soldier services, and ensuring security of both facilities and personnel.

While designated as an Infantry unit in World War I, the unit took part in six campaigns in North Africa and Italy, earning a Presidential Unit Citation (streamer embroidered MT. PANTANO, ITALY) and a French Croix de Guerre with Palm (streamer embroidered BELVEDERE). The Group has deployed in support of the War on Terrorism, but its campaign participation credits have yet to be determined.

As of Winter 2024, the 734th Regional Support Group is a major subordinate command in the Iowa ARNG. In addition to its Headquarters, the Group consists of two Engineer Companies (831st and 833rd), three Transportation Companies ((1168th, 2168th, and 1133th), the 186th Military Police Company, the 3655th Quartermaster Company, and the HQ and HQ Companies of two Combat Sustainment Support Battalions (185th and 1034th).

The 734th Regional Support Group Distinctive Unit Insignia, also called a unit crest or DUI for short, is based almost entirely upon the design of its Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (unit patch). The overall shape of the insignia is based upon the olla, or Mexican cooking and storage jar, found on the unit patch; its soldier red color indicates the unit is responsible for Logistics duties. A hawk is the state bird of Iowa, renowned for its keen, vigilant eye, and a black arrowhead symbolizes the Group’s combat service in World War II. “Virtue Honor Reward,” the unit motto, reflects the organization’s guiding principles whether serving under state or Federal control.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap" respectively.
