Eleven rays of sunlight at the top of the insignia are a reference to the organization’s service in the European Theater during World War and the ten campaigns it took part in over the course of the Korean War. A red-and-blue
taeguk has pride of place because it represents the brigade’s two Meritorious Unit Commendations and two Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citations earned in Korea. A ship’s steering wheel represents the unit’s mission of commanding units used in operating water terminals. Like its Combat Service ID Badge, or CSIB, the Brigade's DUI features brick-red and golden-yellow tones to signify the unit’s inclusion in the Transportation Corps. The brigade's steadfast determination in completing its mission is embodied in the unit's motto, "Resolute," written in a semi-circle in the bottom hemisphere of the crest.
Guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
