Headquartered at Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood) in Texas, the 89th Military Police (MP) Brigade comprises five MP Battalions located in the Midwestern and Western United States. The 92nd MP Battalion is based at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; the 93rd is located at Fort Bliss; the 97th is based at Fort Riley in Kansas; and the 759th calls Fort Carson, Colorado home. The 720th MP Battalion is based at Fort Cavazos along with the Brigade HQ and HQ Company.
Operating under the Brigade’s Training and Readiness Authority, all these Battalions carry out Mobility Support Operations and Police Detention and Security in support of FORSCOM (itself consisting of over 750,000 personnel) and III Corps (also located at Fort Hood). Additionally, the Brigade Commander and the various Battalion Commanders also serve as the Directors of Emergency Services or Provost Marshals at their respective installations. This cover a wide spectrum of responsibilities related to crime (prevention, investigations, police patrols and reports, confinement of offenders and suspects), support for U.S. Customs, Special Reaction Teams, traffic enforcement and investigations, and military working dog operations.

A dragon’s head is the focal point of the 89th Military Police Brigade unit crest, or Distinctive Unit Insignia), symbolizing the unit’s origins in 1966 in Vietnam. The motto of “Proven In Battle” reflects the unit’s extensive service in combat zones, both during Vietnam and in Southwest Asia (Gulf War), Iraq, and Afghanistan. Green and yellow are featured prominently in the unit crest because these are the colors of the Military Police Corps.
