The 8th Military Police Brigade’s Unit Crest employs a green-and-yellow scheme similar to the one found on its Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI) and Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB -- see links below). A chevron in the middle of the crest is emblematic of the unit’s authority to carry out missions of crime prevention and criminal investigations, while the superimposed sword with its tip touching the sun is symbolic of finding the light of truth in carrying out those tasks. This single sword is also an oblique reference to the fact that the unit’s predecessor was the only U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Group in the Republic of Vietnam.
The octagon on which these elements are displayed is representative of the unit’s numerical designation; the motto of “Find the Truth” is displayed on a scroll that gives the crest the appearance of a police badge.
Originally approved on 12 November 1969 for the 8th Military Police Group, this insignia was subsequently redesignated on 16 April 1996 for the 8th Military Police Brigade.
As of Autumn 2023, the 8th Military Police Brigade consists of its Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 728th Military Police Battalion, and the 71st Chemical Company.
