The 92nd Engineer Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, also known as a unit crest or DUI, was approved on 19 January 1956. Its scarlet and white hues are the branch colors of the Army Corps of Engineers, and the four points of the cross (taken from the arms of Savoy, Italy) and of the lozenge (diamond) represent the four World War II campaigns in which the Battalion served. The unit motto, GLORIA AD CAPUT VENIRE, is Latin for “Glory In Achievement.”
Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e),
"Beret" and
"Garrison Cap," respectively.

Nicknamed the “Black Diamonds” because of the black lozenge on its unit crest, the 92nd Engineer Battalion is currently headquartered at Fort Stewart in Georgia. It was first constituted back in 1933 in the Regular Army as the 51st Engineer Battalion and was redesignated under its current title and formation as 1 January 1938. It was reorganized as a Regiment on 22 May 1942, then reorganized with a different title and assignment (92nd Engineer General Service Regiment) on 1 August 1942. It would take part in four campaigns in Italy under this designation throughout World War II, and it remained in Italy until its inactivation on 20 April 1946.
The Battalion was broken up on 25 February 1954, with its HQ, HQ and Service Company, and three Companies (A, B, and C) being redesignated once again as the 92nd Engineer Battalion while the rest of the Regiment was disbanded. The Battalion was activated in February 1955, and during the second half of the 1960s would be deployed first to the Dominican Republic and then Vietnam, where it took part in fourteen campaigns and was awarded four Meritorious Unit Commendations (MUCs) for its service between 1967 and 1971, as well as a Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal First Class.
During the First Gulf War, the Battalion was deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm, taking part in all three campaigns and earning another MUC. Since the launch of the War on Terrorism, the Battalion has been sent to the Middle East on several occasions, garnering four Meritorious Unit Citations for deployments between 2001 and 2011.
