U.S. ARMY 99TH READINESS DIVISION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 99th Readiness Division Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, was originally authorized while the Division was designated as the 99th U.S. Army Reserve Command on 13 May 1970. It was also authorized for wear by the Command’ successsor units, the 99th Regional Support Command and the 99th Regional Readiness Command.

While the 99th Readiness Division does not carry on the lineage of the 99th Army Reserve Command’s predecessors, much of the imagery relating to their history remains in the unit crest. The two checkered squares are a reference to the 99th Infantry Division Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, also currently worn by the 99th Readiness Division. Each square has nine checks and together reflect the numerical designation of the Division. Green and red stripes at the bottom are a nod to the Belgium Fourragére that was awarded to the 99th Infantry Division for its actions in the Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe campaigns along the Siegfried Line during World War II. Green, white (silver), and black are colors from the Provencal Arms and recall the Rhineland campaign. The King chess piece is a sign of the authority and leadership entailed by the command aspect of the unit's mission at the time of approval.

As of Winter 2024, the 99th Readiness Division is a U.S. Army Reserve unit headquartered at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey. One of its most important tasks is to maintain over 500 Army Reserve installations, local training areas, buildings ,and facilities located across the division's 13-state region.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
