Nametapes displaying the Soldier’s last name are worn on the right breast pocket above the chest pocket flap on combat utility uniforms and applicable ECWCS jackets. Beginning in 2004, hook-and-loop fasteners (Velcro) have used to attach nametapes, but in recent years Army regulations have been modified to allow Soldiers the option of sewing on their nametapes, U.S. Army tapes, and other insignia and badges.
Although the types of uniforms on which the nametape has worn remains the same, the introduction of a new style of camouflage—OCP, or Operational Camouflage Pattern—means at the very least that Army personnel need to double-check to make sure the nametape's camo scheme matches the uniform on which the tape is worn. Uniforms made with the Universal Camouflage Pattern (UCP) have a wear-out date of 30 September 2019, while uniforms manufactured with the OCP design were not issued until 1 July 2015.
Be sure to review both the "Type" and "Pattern" selector boxes to ensure you've made the appropriate selections.
