Branch scarves are issued to enlisted personnel and officers in their branch’s primary color. Their wear with service and utility uniforms is authorized in Authorized in Chapter 21, Wear of Insignia and Accouterments, in Army Regulation 670–1, Uniform and Insignia Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia. Local commanders prescribe when they may be worn, typically for ceremonial occasions.
Dark-blue is the color of branch scarves issued to members of the Adjutant General’s Corps; that same color scarf is worn by members of the National Guard Bureau, Judge Advocate General, and Inspector General branches. The AG Corps’ scarf comes in a single color despite the fact that the Corps’ secondary color is scarlet.
The branch scarf is not to be confused with the optional-purchase black dress scarf authorized for wear with different coats (Army black, all-weather, and windbreaker) or the olive-green utility scarf, an issue item that may be worn with cold-weather utility coats (parka or field jacket). Branch scarves are not authorized for wear with the enlisted Army Green or the dress uniform.
