U.S. ARMY 203RD SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 203d Brigade Support Battalion was originally constituted in the Regular Army on 12 November 1917 as the Sanitary Train, 3rd Division and organized at Fort Clark, Texas in December 1917 from new units and one existing unit, C Company, that had taken part in the Mexican Expedition of 1916-1917. In France, the unit participated in two major offensives, St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne, as part of the 3rd Division, nicknamed the “Rock of The Marne” for its resolute stand in the face of a withering German attack during the Second Battle of the Marne.

Redesignated as the 3rd Medical Battalion by the time the U.S. entered World War II, the unit took part in the first amphibious assault of World War II while again assigned to the 3rd Division, earning it the first of a total of four Arrowhead devices for their nine campaign streamers from the conflict. For the heroism displayed in the fighting in the Colmar Pocket, the unit was tapped for a Presidential Unit Citation and a French Croix de Guerre with Palm.

Still assigned to the 3rd Infantry division, the Battalion was deployed to Korea in 1950 and served until the signing of the armistice earning two Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and the Chryssoun Aristion Andrias Cross of Valor. In 1983, the Battalion was reorganized and redesignated as the 2nd Support Battalion (Forward), and four years later was given the designation 203rd Support Battalion on 1 May 1987. Since that time, the Battalion has been deployed in support of the 3rd Brigade combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division for Operations Desert Spring, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom, earning a Presidential Unit Citations for its service in 2003.

The following year, it was redesignated as the 203rd Brigade Support Battalion, and in 2005 it deployed with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 42nd Infantry Division in the Diyala Province and was subsequently honored with another Meritorious Unit commendation; it would earn another for its 2009 deployment to serve as an Advise and Assist Brigade to assist Provincial Reconstruction Teams. In fact, the Battalion is proud to note that it is the “most decorated Combat Service Support Battalion in the United States Army.”

The 203rd Brigade Support Battalion was inactivated in 2015.
