Also called a unit crest or a DUI for short, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the U.S. Army Dental Activity, Hawaii was approved on 21 May 1981. When the unit was discontinued, the insignia was subsequently cancelled with an effective date of 30 September 2016.
The maroon cross in the center of a series of concentric colorful arcs is an image commonly used for Army Medical units because the cross is a symbol of care and healing and the color maroon, along with the white (silver) used as its background, is associated with the Dental Corps. The rainbow has long been a symbol for Hawaii and is used here to reference the organization’s location. "Spirit And Concern" is the organizational motto.
Originally stationed at the Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC), the Army’s dental services in Hawaii were relocated to Fort Shafter in the spring of 2018. With the increased space designed specifically for dental operations and the newest technology at its disposal at its new home at Fort Shafter, the dental clinic was empowered to provide services for more than 4200 active-duty Soldiers assigned not only to Shafter, but also to TAMC, Camp Smith Marine Corps Base, and other points throughout the island of Oahu. A full range of care is offered, from basic dental procedures such as exams, fillings, and cleanings to a wide variety of oral care and surgeries across several disciplines (orthodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, etc.).

The Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam.
