U.S. ARMY JOINT MUNITIONS COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a “unit crest” or a DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia worn by personnel in the U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command (JMC) was approved with an effective date of 1 October 2006.

Its design is based on the fact that the JMC has a lineage directly connected to the U.S. Army Armaments, Munitions, and Chemical Command, or AMCCOM, and the JMC unit crest employs a modified version of the AMCCOM’s authorized insignia: a motto has been added to the benzene ring (blue hexagon). The JMC’s status as a major subordinate command of U.S. Army’s Army Materiel Command (AMC) is reflected in the red, white, and blue taken from the AMC Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, also called a unit patch. The scarlet used in the flame and the yellow used throughout the insignia are Ordnance branch colors, while the crossed field guns and the flaming bomb (“bomb and shell”) are taken from the Ordnance insignia of branch. A gold laurel wreath upon which the insignia rests symbolizes high achievement and excellence. "Ready Reliable Lethal" is the organizational motto.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
