Buff (gold) and blue, official branch colors of the Quartermaster Corps, are used exclusively in the design of the color version of the U.S. Army Quartermaster Center and School Patch, or Shoulder Sleeve Insignia.
The crossed sword and key are taken from the Quartermaster Corps branch insignia, with the sword emphasizing the Corps’ primary objective of supporting the missions of our military forces. The key recalls the storekeeping duties that were the bailiwick of the original Quartermaster Department; its placement over the sword emphasizes how important Quartermaster functions are to ensuring the successes of military personnel. A lighted torch is a common image in heraldry, and here it is an emblem representing the light of knowledge as a reference to both the Quartermaster School and the Quartermaster Center.
Originally approved for the Quartermaster Training Command on 7 November 1956, this insignia was subsequently redesignated for the U.S. Army Quartermaster Center and U.S. Army Quartermaster School on 23 October 1962. It was amended on 24 November 1975 to change the colors and has remained unchanged since that time.
