U.S. ARMY RESERVE MEDICAL COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

The Army Reserve Medical Command Distinctive Insignia is worn by those personnel serving in a unit in the command that does not have its own Distinctive Unit Insignia. Established in 2005, the Army Reserve Medical Command (AR-MEDCOM) is tasked with training, equipping, and deploying Reserve Medical personnel in order to meet the medical needs that are inherent in the full spectrum of military operations.

Approved on 1 October 2005, the AR-MEDCOM Regimental Distinctive Insignia features a Minute Man in profile; the Minute Man has long been used as a symbol of Citizen-Soldiers. The gold used for the Minute Man, cross, and laurel wreath and oak branch stands for excellence and honor, and the maroon scroll on which “CIVIS MILITIS MEDICUS” is inscribed is an Army Medical Corps color (the motto translates as “Patriot Soldier Physician”). A cross is a traditional symbol of the compassion involved in the delivery of medical care; the oak stands for strength; and laurel represents achievement.

Headquartered at the C.W. Bill Young Armed Forces Reserve Center in Pinellas Park, Florida, AR-MEDCOM exercises and control of TDA reserve medical units in CONUS, with two subordinate Medical Commands—the 3rd and the 807th—carrying out command and control of TOE of AR-MEDCOM units east and west of Ohio, respectively.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
