The instantly recognizable pin-on metal rank insignia of Chief Warrant Officers 3—three black squares on a shiny silver background—is worn on a variety of coats and caps. Insignia available on this page are intended for wear on coats and come in pairs; single CW3 pin-on metal insignias designed for wear on dress-uniform headgear can be accessed at the Garrison Cap / Beret Insignia link below.
According to DA 670-1, this nonsubdued CW3 pin-on rank insignia is worn on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform, the Black or Green All-Weather Coat and the Black or Green Windbreaker, 5/8-inch from the outside shoulder seam and centered front to back. (See
Figure 21-41, DA PAM 670-1.)
The CW3 rank insignia is also authorized for wear on the sleeves of jackets worn as part of the Mess and Evening Mess uniforms. However, regulations allow embroidered rank insignia to be worn instead of nonsubdued metal insignia, and our embroidered bullion sleeve rank insignia (see below) serves as the perfect complement to the other sewn-on sleeve ornamentations found on the Blue and White Mess Jackets.
