In the Coast Guard Auxiliary Manual, the insignia worn by Auxiliarists serving in no less than five different offices—a silver oak leaf mounted with a red “A” for “Appointed” office—also seems to be the only named after an office it represents, namely Division Chief (DVC). For example, on page 4-19 we read, “The Area Assistant Chief Counsels shall be licensed attorneys authorized to wear the DVC [Division Chief] insignia.” Also, the manual says, “This position [Deputy Directorate Chief, DDC] shall wear the insignia of a DVC,” and later on it says that “An ASC is authorized to wear the same appointed position insignia as a Division Chief on National staff.”
Regardless of whether it’s referred to as a DDC or DVC or ASC insignia, the guidance on its wear is the same when it’s worn as a collar device on the shirts of several types of uniforms, including the Winter Dress Blue, Undress Blue—Winter, and Undress short-sleeveshirt. The device is oriented stem-down, A up and place so that it outermost edge is inch away from and parallel to the shirt’s inner collar edge. Center the insignia vertically between the visible top and bottom of the collar.
