For their insignia of grade, Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla Commanders (FC) wear the two connected silver bars that instantly recall the insignia for a Coast Guard/Navy Lieutenant or a Captain in the non-seagoing military services. FC is an elected position, which is reflected in the use of a blue “A” on the device centered between the two bars.
Flotilla Commanders wear pin-on, metal collar devices on uniforms that lack appropriate space for sleeve lace or should-board attachments that would be used to display posit. These include the Winter Dress Blue uniform, with its Coast Guard blue shirt with permanent creases; the Undress Blue—Winter and its U.S. Air Force-style uniform with epaulets (which are not used to display rank insignia); and Undress Short Sleeve shirts. Embroidered insignia of grade is used for other uniforms such as the Jump Suit or the Operational Duty Uniform.
The FC collar device is oriented so that the letter A is “pointing” to the top of the collar, then the device is placed so that its outermost edge is parallel to one inch from the inner collar edge. The entire insignia should be centered between the top and bottom edges of the collar.
