With the discontinuation of the Working Blue uniform effective 31 December 2012, there are only two uniforms in the Coast Guard Auxiliary on which sew-on embroidered insignia are worn: the Operational Dress Uniform (ODU) and the Auxiliary Jump suit. Wear on the Jump suit is optional, with Auxiliarists allowed to choose substitute the cloth insignia for pin-on metal devices, but it is mandatory on the ODU.
To properly place the sew-on embroidered Flotilla Staff Officer (FSO) collar device, imagine a line perfectly bisecting the angle of the collar running from the collar point to top edge of the collar. Next, center the FSO insignia on the line, letter A up, so it bisects the insignia as well, with the base of the insignia 1-1/8 inches from the collar point. When correctly placed, both collar devices will be tilted inboard at roughly 40 to 45 degrees.
