The Coast Guard Auxiliary uses the same single silver bar for insignia worn by Flotilla Vice Commanders (FVC) and Division Staff Officers (SOs), replacing the blue “B” with a red one to indicate the wearer has been appointed to a position or office. Staff officers serve in a variety of fields essential to carrying out the Coast Guard Auxiliary program, and may serve in more than one office at a time (this has no effect on their insignia display, however).
Coast Guard Auxiliary Staff Officers wear pin-on, metal collar insignia with the Winter Dress Blue, Undress Blue—Winter, and Undress Short-Sleeve shirts. The device is centered between the top and bottom collar edges with the “A” pointing toward the top edge, then it is positioned so that the vertical axis closest to the inner collar edge is once inch from and parallel to it.
Sew-on collar devices with insignia embroidered onto backing material is authorized for wear with the Operational Duty Uniform.
