A single silver bar like the one worn by Lieutenants (junior grade) in the Coast Guard and Navy mounting a blue letter “B” serves as the collar device for Auxiliarists elected to serve as the Flotilla Vice Commander (FVC). The bar indicates organizational level, while the blue color of the letter indicates the wearer is serving in an elected office.
Collar devices are worn on a variety of shirts, but uniform changes over the past few years mean that these pin-on metal insignia are no longer worn on the Working Blue Uniform shirt (discontinued 31 December 2012) or Operational Duty Uniform shirt (sew-on insignia required). Currently, they are worn on Undress Blue—Winter, Winter Dress Blue and Undress short-sleeve shirts.
Collar insignia are worn by FVCs with the letter “A” pointing to the top of the collar and the device vertically centered between visible top and bottom edges of the collar. It’s then positioned so that the edge is one inch from and parallel to the inner collar edge.
