Two-inch silver laces or stripes are reserved for wear by Coast Guard Auxiliarists serving through election or by appointment in the highest administrative and management levels of the service; their one-, two-, and three-star insignias recall the insignia of flag officers (Admirals and Generals) in the Armed Forces (silver was selected as the color for the lace stripes to differentiate Auxiliary officials from Navy and Coast Guard Admirals).
Worn on the sleeves of the Dinner Dress Blue Jacket and Service Dress Blue Coat, a single two-inch silver lace is placed two inches above the cuff, completely circling the sleeve and being sewn into the back seam. This configuration is worn by District Commodores and Assistant National Commodores.
