Worn by all grades of Commissioned and Chief Warrant Officers, the Coast Guard’s Officer cap device consists of a gold eagle, facing right with spread wings and clutching a horizontally oriented fouled anchor. Superimposed on the eagle’s chest is the Coast Guard shield with its 13 stars and 13 stripes.
On male and female Combination Caps, the Officer cap device is attached front and center to the mount of the black hat band. The same device is also authorized for wear on the Cold Weather Cap; it is attached to the grommet hole with the front flap snapped into the upright position at all times.
The spread-eagle Officer Cap device is also worn on
Garrison Caps in tandem with insignia of rank, with the cap device placed on the wearer’s left and the insignia device on the right. Both devices are positioned so that the center is 1.5” from the bottom of the cap and the leading edge of the device is 2” from the front crease.
