Coast Guard uniform regulations call for the wear of shiny metal grade insignia by Petty Officers First Class (E-6) on the long- and short-sleeve Light Blue Shirt (Service Dress Bravo “B” and Tropical Blue uniforms) and the Dark Blue Dress Shirt (Winter Dress Blue uniform). Senior Commanders, however, do have the authority to require the wear of the subdued (black metal) version of the insignia during wartime or other emergencies when wearing normal devices could be hazardous.
Collar devices are worn centered between the top and bottom edges of the collar with the chevrons pointing down. Position the device so that its center is one inch from the collar’s leading edge, then orient it on an imaginary line that is parallel to the collar edge and which equally bisects the device through the chevron points.
