A sprig of three oak leaves has been used an insignia for Warrant and Chief Warrant Officers 1920, when it was designated as the specialty mark for Coast Guard Pay Clerks. During the 1950s, the specialty was renamed Supply Clerk, and then in 1968 it was redesignated as Finance and Supply, retaining the same specialty mark.
That mark is featured above a gold Coast Guard shield on the Hard and Enhanced shoulder boards that Finance and Supply (F&S) Chief Warrant Officer 2 to 4 wear on white uniforms, blue uniform shirts, sweaters, Bridge Coats. Both types of shoulder boards are issued in regular and reduced (3/4) sizes so Officers and CWOs may select one that provides a better fit.
Hard boards are secured to the Dinner Dress Jacket, Service Dress White Coat, and Bridge Coats by sliding the board’s hasp through the shoulder loops on those garments and securing it with a snap button at the board’s narrow end.
Enhanced shoulder boards feature an open-ended band of elastic material through which the epaulettes of the Light Blue shirt (short- and long-sleeve) are inserted. Enhanced boards are also worn with the Cardigan and Wooly-Pully sweater (but not with the optional Winter Dress Blue uniform) and Bridge Coats manufactured with epaulettes.
