Unchanged for the Navy since 1869, the sleeve insignia for U.S. Navy (as well as U.S. Coast Guard) Commanders (O-5) comprises three stripes of gold lacing, 1/2-inch in width with a quarter-inch of space between them, encircling the entire sleeve. To ensure you have enough material for six stripes, our Commander Lacing Set comes with three 30-inch rolls of lacing, with each roll more than enough to sew a stripe on each sleeve.
Customers purchasing the Commander Lacing Set may also wish to add the appropriate sleeve device to their cart. Restricted and Unrestricted Line Officers are
denoted by a gold star placed a quarter-inch above the uppermost star with a single point facing downward. Officers in Staff Corps (JAG, Supply, Civil Engineer, and so forth) wear their Corps’ designated device, also positioned a quarter inch above the top stripe. Both the star and Corps devices are centered between the front and rear creases of the jacket sleeve. Coast Guard Officers, on the other hand, wear a
Coast Guard Sleeve Device in lieu of a gold star, with Chief Warrant Officers also wearing a specialty mark above the shield device.
