In addition to the high-waisted unbelted trousers with a zippered fly front closure and a single-breasted mess jacket with three 35-ligne Navy eagle buttons down each side of the front and two 28-ligne Navy eagle gilt buttons with a link-chain closure, other basic components of the Male Officer DDBJ include (but are not limited to) a white waistcoat, mother-of-pearl shirt studs and cuff links, white gloves, and white suspenders. A tailcoat with a hem that falls to the hollow behind the knee may be prescribed in lieu of the jacket in order to meet certain unique protocol requirements.
