The triangle that forms the base of the Department of The Army Civilian Retired lapel pin recalls the design of the Army’s various Civilian Service Awards, with the difference being that the triangle on those awards is positioned with one point up, as opposed to one point down for the Civilian Retired pin. Superimposed over the triangle is the official emblem Department of the Army, with the bottom half of the emblem’s circulation inscription “United States of America” replaced with “Civilian Retired.”
In October 2018, the Army began issuing Civilian Service pins based upon the design of the Civilian Retired insignia to commemorate work anniversaries. Inscribed “Army Civilian Service” instead of “Civilian Retired,” a bronze pin awarded to employees celebrating the first year of civilian service in the Department of the Army, while employees who reach the ten-year milestone are honored with a silver pin.
