The United States Department of the Army (DA) Civilian Police Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, often called a shoulder patch or unit patch, was authorized on 20 August 2001. In the center of the police-badge shaped insignia is a blue disc that contains a spread-winged eagle with fifteen lightning flashes emanating from where its talons are resting.
The flashes not only represent the Army’s fifteen major commands which the Department of the Army’s Civilian Police are assigned to serve and protect, but also the speed of that service and protection. Gold is used throughout the insignia to denote excellence and high achievement.
DA Civilian Police are tasked with law enforcement on buildings, facilities, properties, and other installations and assets that are owned or leased by the United States Army. When stationed abroad, the DA Civilian Police liaisons with foreign police agencies in areas where jurisdictions overlap to provide policing and protection for Army and Army-affiliated personnel and conduct investigations involving those personnel.
