DOT AWARD FOR SUPERIOR ACHIEVEMENT

The Department of Transportation Superior Achievement Medal is also referred to as the DOT Bronze Medal and the USCG-DOT Bronze Medal. It was given these nicknames because it is the third highest Department of Transportation award that may be bestowed on civilians, and because of the Coast Guard’s affiliation with the DoT at the time the honor was established. (The Patriot Act placed the Coast Guard under the Department of Homeland Security beginning in March, 2003.)

Awarded to individuals or groups of individuals, the Superior Achievement Medal is issued in recognition of special efforts that are considered significantly above and beyond the requirements of a position or positions. The achievements should be of such a nature as to have had an impact on improving DoT operations or in serving the interests of the public.

The only higher-ranking DoT awards are those given for Outstanding Achievement and for Meritorious Achievement.
