The rank of Ensign (O-1) is represented on the sleeves of dress uniforms and on shoulder boards with a single, 1/2-inch stripe made of gold lacing. Positioned so that the lower edge of the stripe is two inches from the bottom of the sleeve, the lacing encircles the entire sleeve. Unrestricted and Restricted Line Officers in the Navy and all Officers in the Coast Guard wear a five-pointed gold star one-quarter-inch above the stripe with one ray pointing down; Staff Officers will wear the appropriate Corps device the same distance from the stripe positioned according to the guidance in Article 4102 of the United States Navy Uniform Regulations.
If you are purchasing this Ensign gold lacing for a uniform you have already added to your shopping cart or which you plan to add during this visit to our Web site, we strongly suggest you consider our Lacing and Sleeve Device Sewing Service. You’ll be presented with an option to add this service for $49.99 when you place an appropriate Navy or Coast Guard jacket in your shopping cart; simply measure the length of a jacket that fits you in the manner called for in Navy regulations and send us that information in the Comments section during checkout, and your jacket will arrive ready for wear.
