Our shoulder-board adapters make it easy for female Navy officers to use the hard shoulder boards worn with the Summer White uniform on the new female Service Dress White with choker. To attach the adapter to the shoulder board, turn the shoulder board face down with the angled end facing left and hold the adapter so that the tongue side is on top and the tongue buttons are also facing left. Insert the wide portion of the adapter into the shoulder board from the right until it is securely inside the board, then flip the board and adapter over and slide the tongue through the loops on the coat. Adjust the position of the shoulder board to your satisfaction before securing it to the coat by attaching the tongue to the adapter button.
The rollout of the new female Service Dress White choker coat was first announced in October 2015, one of several uniform changes introduced by then Chief of Naval Personnel. At the same time the new coat was announced, the old “bucket cover” worn by female Navy personnel for several decades was slated to be discontinued and replaced with an Alternate Combination Cover (ACC) to be worn by both male and female personnel (the ACC is the prescribed headgear worn with the female Service Dress White choker coat).
