The Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Combat Operation Insignia is authorized for wear by Navy personnel attached to a Marine Corps unit that participated in combat with an armed enemy during their assignment. The bronze Marine Corps emblem—the instantly recognizable Eagle, Globe, and Anchor—is worn on the suspension ribbons of the three World War II Area Campaign Medals (American, Asiatic-Pacific, and European-African-Middle Eastern), the Korean Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Southwest Asia Service Medal. It's also worn on several campaign medals, including those for Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Inherent Resvole, as well as Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
Only one device is worn on a ribbon, and it is always centered. Other attachments, primarily service stars, are arranged on either side of the centered FMF Combat Operation insignia; the first is placed to the wearer’s right, the second to the wearers left, the third to the wearer’s right, and so forth.
