U.S. Navy and Coast Guard Officers in the Lieutenant (junior grade) rank wear two stripes made of gold lacing, one a half-inch in width and another quarter-inch wide. Both stripes encircle the whole sleeve, with the half-inch lacing positioned so that its bottom is two inches from the end of the sleeve; the quarter-inch stripe is placed a quarter-inch above it. This kit includes one 30”-long strip in each of these two widths.
Both Unrestricted Line and Restricted Officers in the Navy wear a single, five-pointed gold star placed a quarter-inch above the top stripe, while Staff Officers use the appropriate Corps device.

Coast Guard Shield Device instead of a gold star.
Customers purchasing this Lieutenant (junior grade) sleeve lacing for a new uniform should strongly consider adding our Lacing and Sleeve Device Sewing Service when adding the jacket to their shopping cart. Our jackets ship with unfinished sleeves because hemming to a standard length means they will not properly fit the vast majority of our customers because of differences in arm length. With our Lacing and Sleeve Device Sewing Service, on the other hand, you simply provide us the inseam length of a jacket that fits you well, and we’ll place both the stripes and the Officer’s device in the precise location called for by regulations. An added benefit is that your jacket will arrive ready to wear (except for the placement of medal or ribbon racks).
