USMC EMBROIDERED BRIGADIER GENERAL RANK INSIGNIA FOR EVENING DRESS

On the male and female versions of the Evening Dress jacket, Marine Corps Brigadier Generals wear an embroidered insignia of grade on the jacket’s shoulder straps. Regulations provide two options for attaching the insignia: embroidering it directly on the shoulder strap, or embroidering it on dark blue cloth and then sewing the cloth onto the shoulder strap. We offer the insignia-on-cloth style because we feel it better preserves the integrity of the insignia’s embroidery work.

Unlike lower-ranked Officers, General Officers (O-7 to O-10) wear rank insignia centered between the outer edge of the strap and the outer edge of the strap button. The star should be oriented so that a single ray is pointing toward the button and rests on the strap’s centerline of the long axis. Positioned properly, the two rays below the one pointing to the button will be equidistant from and at roughly 90-degree angles to the front and back edges of the strap.
