Listed as the standard sword belt for Officers, the leather service belt may also be issued to Staff Noncommissioned Officers (SNCOs) and NCOs for wear during parade, ceremonies, reviews, in honor guards, and other occasions when swords are prescribed or when an individual is actually or symbolically “under arms.”
Authorized for wear with all uniforms as well as the All-Weather Coat, the service belt is worn over the uniform belt, at the waist covering the waistband, or at the natural waist of the women’s coat; the buckle should be centered in the front after the belt has been tightened. A sword frog or carrier is attached to it at a point over the highest part of the hip bone (usually lined up with the seam of the left trouser/slack leg). Women wearing the belt without a coat must have their shirts tucked in.
Marine Corps regulations authorize the wear of semi-gloss and high-gloss synthetic leather service belts. Our service belt is manufactured out of Porvair, the brand name for a poromeric (synthetic leather) invented in 1969 known for its resiliency and shine and commonly used in military uniforms (visors, shoes, sword frogs, etc.).
