USMC EMBROIDERED MAJOR GENERAL RANK INSIGNIA FOR EVENING DRESS

Unlike Company- and Field-Grade Officers, Marine Corps General Officers wear embroidered insignia of grade centered both horizontally (fore and aft) and vertically (shoulder to neck) on the shoulder straps of the Evening Dress jacket. For Major Generals, the two stars are oriented so that a single ray is pointing toward the neck, with the outermost star’s ray pointing to the center of the innermost star (point to center configuration). The stars will be automatically centered horizontally if the single ray is pointing to the center of the strap button.

Stars may be embroidered directly onto the shoulder strap or embroidered onto a cloth that is then stitched to the strap. We offer the insignia-on-cloth style not only because it better preserves the embroidery work of the stars, but also eliminates the need to measure the distance between stars (3/4 between the star’s centers).

Center the pair of stars vertically between the outermost edge of the shoulder strap and the outermost edge of the shoulder strap button.
