Although they are appointed rather than commis-sioned, Marine Corps Warrant Officers follow the same uniform guidelines as their commissioned counterparts (pay grades O-1 to O-10, W-2 to W-5), particularly 1st and 2nd Lieutenants and Chief Warrant Officers because of the highly similar shape of their rank insignia. Warrant Officers outrank all enlisted personnel, including Staff Noncommissioned Officers.
Embroidered Warrant Officer (W0) insignia is worn on the shoulder straps of the Evening Dress jacket the men’s and women’s Enlisted Dress uniforms (both “A” and “B” variations). We offer the insignia embroidered in scarlet and synthetic gold bullion on a fabric swatch that matches the color of the jacket fabric and which is sewn onto the epaulets. (Note: the mixed wear of uniform components made of gold and synthetic gold bullion is authorized by regulations.)
To properly place the WO-1 rank insignia on the straps, orient the cloth so that the long axis of the insignia points fore and after. Center the insignia between the front and rear edges of the shoulder strap and position it so its outermost edge (closest to shoulder) is 3/4” from the armhole seam.
